About Sybil Ihrig

Sybil Ihrig, L.Ac., D.O.M. is licensed as a practitioner of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in California and as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine in Florida. She is nationally certified in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology.

Sybil first became inspired to seek a career in a Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) field in the mid-1990s, initially following a curriculum of Ayurveda with Drs. Vasant Lad and Sunil Joshi in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Thereafter, she pursued a degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine in San Diego, California, graduating summa cum laude from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine with a Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine (M.S.T.O.M.). In her Oriental Medicine clinic, she focuses on gentle, intuitive Japanese styles of practice and engages in ongoing study with Masakazu Ikeda and other Japanese masters of the art.

While still in Oriental Medical school, Sybil also embarked on intensive studies in Classical Homeopathy with leading international practitioners. She wishes to express deep gratitude to all her teachers over the years, particularly Dr. Massimo Mangialavori and Dr. A.U. Ramakrishnan (author of A Homeopathic Approach to Cancer).

Sybil has also received training in Pranic Healing from Master Stephen Co and Mary D. Clark, Ph.D. and finds it an invaluable adjunct to every other natural healing modality that she practices. Clearing congestion from the energy field enhances the effectiveness and rate of healing of both Acupuncture and Homeopathy.

Women's Health Specialties

Sybil has undertaken extensive postgraduate training in Traditional Chinese Medical Gynecology and provides assistance to women undergoing health challenges such as:

  • Menopause
  • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in its many "flavors"
  • Menorrhagia (heavy menstrual flow)
  • Fibroids and endometriosis
  • Nausea of pregnancy
  • Other disorders of pregnancy and labor
  • Postpartum difficulties
  • Infertility
  • Decreased libido
  • Irregular menses and amenorrhea (absence of flow)
  • Cervical dysplasia and HPV

Healthy Aging with Alternative Medicine

Sybil also cherishes working with mature adults. It is typically during the second half of life that our genetic or lifestyle-associated weaknesses come to the fore and demand our attention. If we do not listen to this internal cry for help, health problems become chronic and worsen. Prostate problems (in men), arthritis, high cholesterol, hypertension, acid reflux, bowel problems, chronic insomnia, anxiety and depression, and other serious disorders associated with aging have all been known to respond to natural approaches.

Persons with various types of cancer can also benefit from natural therapies. Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, for example, are known to be effective in minimizing adverse effects of concurrent conventional treatments (chemotherapy, radiation, surgery). Those in recovery/remission from cancer and wishing to boost their immune systems can enhance prospects for future wellness with the help of Oriental Medicine, Homeopathy and/or Pranic Healing.

If you are committed to bettering your health now and in the future, Sybil will work with you, providing not only treatment but also dietary, nutritional, and lifestyle recommendations that are customized specifically for you.

Special travel arrangements are possible for homebound seniors.

Publications

Sybil writes a quarterly health and wellness column for San Marcos Magazine and Escondido Magazine. She also contributes occasional articles to national publications such as Acupuncture Today and Homeopathy Today.

Community Activities

Giving back to the community in terms of service and commitment is a cornerstone of Sybil's value system. To that end, she is an active member of Rotary International, American Business Women's Association (ABWA), and the National Center for Homeopathy (NCH). She also teaches courses on alternative medicine topics through the Extended Studies Program at California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM).
