Pranic Healing
What is Pranic Healing?
Pranic Healing is a highly developed system of non-touch energy-based healing techniques that use prana to balance, harmonize, and transform the body's energy processes. Prana is a Sanskrit word that is equivalent to the concept of Vital Force in homeopathy or Qi in Oriental medicine. This unseen bioenergy keeps the body alive and maintains a state of good health.
Developed by the late Master Choa Kok Sui of the Philippines (who began his working life as an engineer), Pranic Healing is based on a synthesis of traditions from India and China. It draws upon concepts of the aura or bioenergy field, the ancient wisdom of the chakra system from India, and the practice of External Medical Qigong.
Chakras and the Energy Body
In the mid-20th century, the Russian scientist, Semyon Kirlian, demonstrated the existence of a colorful, radiant energy field surrounding the physical bodies of humans, animals, and plants. This energy field, or aura, interpenetrates the visible physical body, extending several inches outward from the skin's surface. Experiments in Kirlian photography further revealed that diseased energies appear first in the energy field before manifesting as a physical ailment.
Within the energy field are eleven major chakras, or energy centers, and numerous minor chakras. To intuitives, chakras appear as discs of radiant, rotating color. The chakras receive energy from our surroundings and distribute it to nourish our organs, glands, nerves, and tissues. Pranic Healing practitioners have developed their sensitivities to sense the width and depth of these chakras through the energy of their hands.
When we are ill, under duress, or engaged in negative thought processes, one or more chakras can become depleted, congested, or overactive. Congestion is usually present and disturbs the flow of energy to our biological functions. These imbalances set the stage for deeper illness. The body has an innate self-healing ability, however, and it is the job of the Pranic Healing practitioner to clear the imbalanced energies so that the life force can complete the job of restoring itself.
A Pranic Healing Session
At the start of a Pranic Healing session, you will describe your complaint(s) to the practitioner, who then scans your energy field in depth to determine which centers are congested, overactive, or depleted. Scanning is followed by a process of "cleansing" all imbalanced chakras and eliminating as much congestion as possible. The practitioner projects special color pranas to aid in this process. Only after congestion is eliminated can the chakras safely be energized; energizing when congestion is present would only result in a healing crisis, or aggravation of existing symptoms. Finally, the practitioner energizes specific chakras with additional color pranas and stabilizes the energies that have been transmitted so that they continue their work after the session has been completed. To learn more about what happens during and after a session, see the "What to Expect" page.
For acute complaints, one or two sessions are often sufficient to achieve the desired results. For chronic or more serious disorders, a series of weekly sessions is usually recommended. Your progress is monitored on an ongoing basis, and based on this progress, the practitioner can determine when to discontinue treatment or space out the sessions at longer intervals.
